A sell out crowd witnessed an event that just had that little bit more to offer. After the announcement that two of the main event stars dropped out it was hard to imagine that still the card would give the crowd an ecstatic fightnight.
Tyrone Spong was the first fighter to be announced not to be able to fight after he got in a motorcycle accident after the weigh in on Friday, ending up in hospital. Luckily for him, he ended up just breaking a few ribs but was out of the fight. Second backdrop for the organisation came just a few hours later when Fast Faldir Chabari announced to be too sick to fight Gago Drago on Saturday. Who would had thought that missing two of the bigger names out there would still give the crowd a fightnight that was worth every minute of it. Well, it just did.
The evening started off with two MMA fights showing two favourites to lose their fight. Micheal Knaap had to give it to Robert Jocs as was Hakim Gouram who had to see Croatian Dennis Stoijnic taking the win after a clinical battle on the ground.
World Champion and TMF tv vj Soumia was up next to fight Marianna Zueva from Portugal. Soumia took the fight as expected but had to work hard to keep Zueva on a distance. After five rounds Soumia takes the win but big ups to 17 year old Zueva who made it very clear to be here to stay.
Popular Dutch hard hitting wonder Nieky “ The Natural” Holzken was next up against Portuguese best Jose Reis. Holzken done he’s homework in this fight and starts the fight by pressuring Reis. Reis, starts of a bit slow to end the round showing Holzken this fight is not over yet. One gear up in round two, the fight is close but Holzken seems to drop the damaging blows. The work rate of both fighters are appreciated by the crowd. Both fighters, looking to take the win in round 3, it will be Holzken to take it after a close and very good fight.
KlasH Champions Battlefield -72,5kg Qualification
The first bracket had to give the tournament the two first qualifiers for the -72,5kg tournament final that will be held beginning of 2009. Olli Koch from Germany, and Romanian fighters Valintin Sympuru, Szucks Barnabas and of course Mircea Calatiu.
Olli Koch in great shape wasn’t suppose to make it a tactical fight in this one against Sympuru. Both fighters going in strong and landing some hard hooks, it’s clear this fight will not go the distance. The Romanian fighter, having a boxing background is looking strong, but Koch is not impressed at all and take the first spot in the final by a devastating hook that drops Sympuru.
The second fight of the tourney, would show witch of the two favourite Romanian fighters would take the second spot in the KlasH Final 8. Barnabas vs Calatiu will show two men with a clear battleplan. Barnabas taking control, working he’s distance and scoring hard with knees. Calatiu, will get in there and fight he’s fight, landing some punches but it’s Barnabas scoring with sharp razor knees, ending the fight in R3 on medical intervention. The first two names are known for the final. Who will take the other 6 places we will know when the next KlasH qualifying bouts will be fought, probably in October & November.
Alviar Lima vs Yucel Fidan is the fight talked about for weeks. Everybody agreed out there that this fight would not going the distance. But said that, who would have expected this kind of slugfest. From the bell the two hard hitting fighters are trading and it is Fidan finding the gap in Lima’s defence. Lima, taking that one blow to much and a first 8 count is a fact. Fidan is looking to finish the job and a few devastating punches later, again Lima is wobbling and counted. The bell is there but the fight seems over and out for Lima, who took some lethal blows. The crowd is going crazy in round 2, a reborn Lima is there to go in there in total warmode. Fidan in the ropes, it’s he’s turn to take some serious damage, knees and punches are scored by Lima and Fidan is in trouble, counted a first time he continuous to trade but it’s Lima showing the stamina in there and again Fidan is in the ropes and takes another punishment. A second 8 count is inevitable and again the bell is there. Round 3, Lima is unstoppable now and go in with sharp punch/knees combinations. Again Fidan is in trouble and a knee ends this fantastic fight. Alviar Lima now holds the -72,5kg & -76kg WFCA World Title.
The most controversial fight of the night is William Diender vs K1 Max Superstar Gago Drago. Diender, only informed a few hours prior to the fight, get’s in there with Drago to replace Faldir Chabari. The crowd is on their feet to watch the underdog Diender, taking some very hard middlekicks. The fight is in higher gear immediately, Drago wants to pressure Diender but end of the round Diender shows he’s still well in the game showing some hard counter strikes. Round two Drago starts again by kicking Diender very hard on the body, the kicks connect but Diender is stepping in there and Drago is hit, The slip following, Diender jumps in to hit Drago once again and the ref has to separate the two of them. Drago is asked if he’s ok, and the fight continuous. Diender feels victory is there to take, goes in as a madman with heavy lethal strikes. The fight is over at that point and Drago takes a few 8 counts but will never recover. The ref will called it a day for Drago leaving Diender to outburst in total happiness.
Florin Vintila unlucky in this fight against Gregorg Tredowski. Vintilla starting of very aggressive, it’s clear he prepared himself very well to face this fight under MMA rules. The fight is going well until both man are heading for the ropes. Vintila is turned over, falls in between the ropes, out of the ring. The arm is hurt and it’s clear the strategy of Tredowski will concentrate on this arm from now on. And just that is happening a short time later and Vintila has to tap out loosing the fight.
Vitor Vianna is back! Having coped with an injury that kept him out of the ring for a few months, Brasilian and very skilled fighter Vianna showed to be still way up there. Apo Atacome was showing he’s back soon on the ground and was not answering the pounding ending the fight in a clear victory for Vianna.
Aziz JahJah vs Lucasz Jarosz was the next fight to pleasure the audience. Both fighters looking strong it’s JahJah taking the lead in the fight countering with very sharp hands. Jah Jah when going strong makes it look easy against Jarosz and in no time the fight is over and out.
Hans Stringer looked strong standing, looked strong on the ground on Saturday. Ricardo Van Kooten takes the fight to the ground to avoid damage but on the ground is where the damage is done. Stringer is pounding and hamering and the ref stops the fight. Clear win for Stringer.
Mr. Cool, Gokhan Saki get’s everybody out there on their feet for the last fight. Hungarian fighter Dhaene is in trouble from the bell, trying to land punches it’s Saki who is showing how to end a fight. A strong counter followed up by a high kick will be convincing enough to do the job and Saki is on the ropes taking the standing ovation from he’s fans. End of a great show, up to the next one!!
